Medog County is located in the southeastern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region. In October 2013, the Zhamu Highway (Zhamu Town, Bomi County to Medog) was opened to traffic after decades of repeated destruction and construction.

Within ten years of its opening to traffic, all 45 administrative villages in Medog County had access to roads. The tea industry has begun to take shape, with 19,000 acres of alpine organic tea gardens built. 500,000 kilograms of green tea will be picked in 2023.
