Pablo Iglesias is determined to express the maximum presence of Podemos in the Government of Spain . Not only to 'sell' to society that its formation makes useful policy, that it can fulfill its purpose of "changing people's lives", but to strengthen its internal leadership in purple formation. The leader of Podemos had convened for today the State Citizen Council -maximum governing body between Assemblies-, an appointment in which he announced that the State Citizen Assembly , better known as Vistalegre III , is ahead of March this year to revalidate his leadership .

Iglesias has already anticipated before his advisers the intention to appear to lead the party. The ethical code of Podemos includes a limitation of mandates to "eight years for all public offices and internal office charges, with the possibility of exceptionally extended to a maximum of twelve years." Iglesias has been in charge of Podemos since 2014, six years. "It will be an honor to present myself as a candidate." The Assembly was to be held before March 2021, but Iglesias has accelerated the times, has urged the call to take advantage of the impetus granted by the entry into the Government, to be vice president and have four ministries, to securely secure a new mandate .

With this decision, Iglesias banishes at a stroke the expectations, encouraged by himself and Irene Montero, that in a short period of time a woman would be at the head of the party. "The next person to occupy the general secretariat of Podemos will be a woman and will be soon," Montero ventured in March 2019, words endorsed by Iglesias. All the lights already pointed to Montero in succession code. In any case, the leader of Podemos has always maintained his claim to continue at least until 2021, as he said he did not want to leave politics without proving the experience of Government.

Iglesias's decision seeks to strengthen his internal leadership, his control of the party, at a time when the consummation of the coalition government with the PSOE has mitigated internal criticism. If the terrible electoral results of April and November, plus the crisis caused by the flight of Íñigo Errejón, diminished his figure and even encouraged alliances between regional leaders, now, with his entry into the Council of Ministers, the move to which I trust everything, its political future and that of the party, it has severed all internal opposition.
