Explore the five highlights of the Suzhou version of the digital RMB

First taste of "dual offline" payment, first online payment, first "sub-wallet"

Following the distribution of digital RMB red envelopes in Shenzhen in October, the Suzhou pilot activity of the "increased version" also kicked off.

Since 8:00 pm on December 11, 100,000 Suzhou citizens who have won the “Double 12 Suzhou Shopping Festival” digital RMB red envelope can use the “Digital RMB APP” to make purchases at nearly 10,000 offline merchants designated in the Suzhou area. Online consumption can also be made through Jingdong Mall.

Each red envelope is 200 yuan, and the activity lasts until 24:00 on the 27th.

The biggest highlight of this test is JD online payment and dual offline payment. In addition, Bank of Communications and Postal Savings have been added, and six state-owned banks have been collected as operating institutions.

Unlike the previous display of only one pattern, the six banks each correspond to a "sub-wallet" in the digital RMB APP (also known as "digital RMB wallet"), and the cooperation relationship between banks and Internet institutions is presented at the front end.

Aspect 1 double offline payment

Even if there is no internet, the transaction can be completed

Dual offline payment is a major highlight of this pilot.

At noon on December 12, in the "Three Squirrels" shop on the basement level of Tianhong Shopping Mall in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou City, the manager Ma and the winning citizen Ms. Lu demonstrated the dual offline payment process.

The two first adjusted their mobile phones to flight mode respectively. After Mr. Ma turned on "Touch" on the mobile terminal, input the amount of the payment. Ms. Lu also opened the "Payment" page in the APP. After touching, I immediately received a reminder that the payment was successful.

"Even if the mobile phone signal is not good, the transaction can be completed." Manager Ma said.

According to the official definition, offline payment experience refers to the way in which users do not connect to the back-end system when making transactions or transfers when there is no network or weak network, but to verify the user's identity, confirm transaction information and make payment in the wallet.

Authorities close to the authority have previously disclosed on internal occasions that the digital renminbi can be understood as a property rights system and does not involve the issue of asynchronous information flow and capital flow. Therefore, it can support the use of dual offline payment functions in special scenarios such as airplanes and basements.

According to the rules, only some citizens can participate in offline wallet experience activities. Participants need to register when making an appointment, and they need to use mobile terminals designated by Huawei and vivo, and install apps with offline payment functions.

Merchants participating in this test can use mobile terminals that support offline payment functions, or collect payments through upgraded POS devices.

Aspect 2 E-commerce online payment

There is a digital RMB option on the JD payment page of the winner

JD online consumption is a new scenario added in this pilot.

If the winner wants to use digital renminbi to make online payments on the JD.com app, he needs to actively push the information in the digital renminbi app and push the information to the JD backend to match.

According to a demonstration by a winner, this push operation is to open permissions for the JD APP in the digital RMB app.

On the evening of December 11, the reporter compared the JD APP payment page on his mobile phone with that of the winner. The winner’s JD APP payment page already has a digital RMB option, while the reporter’s does not.

"After the list of winners was released at 8 o'clock this morning, we received a push message, and we directed them to enable the digital RMB payment function for the winners in the background." A member of the JD Digital Science project told reporters.

Lu Yunhan, the digital renminbi project manager of JD Digital, further stated that the push action is "push and send". After the user pushes over, they can immediately use the digital renminbi to pay in the JD APP.

The reporter learned that this involves the ability of instantaneous matching, which is also one of the core tasks of JD Digital.

If you exceed the red envelope amount, you can recharge before spending.

Aspect 3 "Sub-wallet"

Sub-wallet push can prevent APP from obtaining personal sensitive information

To be precise, the aforementioned "push" action is to be completed through the "sub-wallet" in the digital renminbi APP, which is also a sub-item that debuted for the first time.

The reporter saw on the digital renminbi APP page of Mr. Wang, a successful citizen of Suzhou, that the six state-owned banks participating in the event each corresponded to a sub-wallet.

The merchants in each sub-wallet are different.

At present, JD Digital has opened up six state-owned banks to access the JD APP, and JD Mall is the only company with full access among Internet organizations.

In addition to the JD APP, CCB's sub-wallets can also be pushed to "Shanrong Business" (a B2C shopping platform under China Construction Bank); in addition to the JD APP, the sub-wallets can be pushed to Bilibili; ICBC has the most partners, except JD. In addition to the APP, the sub-wallet can also be pushed to Meituan Bike and Didi Travel.

In addition to the convenience and speed embodied by the aforementioned "Push and Send", the digital RMB APP sub-wallet has two major advantages.

According to Lu Yunhan, one is security.

In the digital renminbi APP, the payment amount of the sub-wallet can be adjusted, and the sub-wallet can also be closed, so the entrance and method for users to manage their wallets in real time are strengthened.

The second is the protection of personal privacy.

The sub-wallet push method is unable to obtain personal sensitive information for apps like Jingdong. These two methods can also ensure that the user's privacy will not be leaked.

Aspect 4 behind-the-scenes stories of participating parties

Mainly recommended by the government, random checks by banks

In the digital renminbi test, the roles of each participant and the spectrum of their relationships have become clearer.

Peng Fei, general manager of the corporate payment product department of JD Digital’s payment business department, said that the central bank and the Institute of Digital Science are the first cooperation level of JD Digital; the digital renminbi operating institution (this time the six state-owned banks) is the second This level of cooperation; online and offline, and merchants inside and outside the system are the third level of cooperation.

The role of JD Digital in this pilot is first to provide technical support, second to serve merchants (including training for merchants, upgrade and transformation of hardware and equipment for merchants, etc.), and third to provide its physical store scenes.

A reporter from the Beijing News found during the visit that offline physical stores such as JD Home and JD Five Star Appliances mostly use modified POS machines to accept digital RMB payments.

Peng Fei said that many hardware devices such as self-service cash registers, dual-screen machines, etc. laid offline have also been upgraded and the transformation is not particularly difficult.

"Xiangcheng District undertook a lot of work in the early digital RMB pilot. As the main department of this event, it participated in the construction of the lottery system and data circulation, mobilized merchants to install equipment, organized bank random inspections, and carried out a series of real environment verification tests. Supporting work." Guo Yanhao, deputy director of the Suzhou Xiangcheng District Local Financial Supervision Administration, said that among the nearly 10,000 offline merchants in Suzhou that participated in the pilot, 5,184 merchants in the Xiangcheng district were pilot businesses, accounting for about 50% of the city’s total. .

When asked about the dual offline payment application, Guo Yanhao said that the application has also undergone many rounds of testing. At present, both C2C and C2B have passed the test.

Aspect 5 Future Imagination

The pilot program will add six places including Shanghai and Hainan

In recent months, digital renminbi pilot projects have been gradually launched in many places.

In addition to the announced Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiongan, and Chengdu, plus the first batch of "four places and one scene" for the future Winter Olympics scenes, it is reported that the pilot will also add six places, including Shanghai and Hainan.

There is also plenty of room for imagination in application scenarios.

According to Fan Yifei, deputy governor of the central bank, as of the end of August this year, more than 6,700 pilot scenarios have been implemented nationwide, covering life payment, catering services, transportation, shopping and consumption, and government services.

The reporter learned from this visit that scenes such as smart parking and party dues payment have already landed in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou, and the Suzhou locality is also in contact with platforms such as JD.com and Meituan.

What is the significance of the digital renminbi pilot and what can be replicated experiences for other cities?

Guo Yanhao stated that he will do a good job in the pilot work and hope to use the digital renminbi pilot as an opportunity to gather efforts to attract the digital renminbi upstream, middle and downstream industrial chain, including digital renminbi research and development, issuance, operation, circulation, application and other links, to promote Xiangcheng digital economy The development of the digital financial industry.

Xiangcheng District has been awarded the "Provincial Digital Financial Industry Cluster", and the next step is to strive to create a "National Digital Financial Industry Cluster".
