In the October household survey, the amount spent by households with two or more people increased by 1.2% from the same month last year in real terms, excluding price fluctuations.

The increase in spending due to national travel support and the drop in temperature is conspicuous.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the amount spent by households with two or more people in an October survey was 298,006 yen per household.

In real terms, excluding price fluctuations, it increased by 1.2% from the same month last year, marking the fifth straight month of increase.

Breaking this down, “culture and entertainment” increased by 8.0% due to increased spending on accommodation and domestic package tours as a result of the government's “National Travel Assistance” measure to stimulate tourism demand.

On the other hand, 'food' decreased by 0.4% due to fewer opportunities to go out and eat at home.

There is also a notable increase in spending due to lower temperatures.

“Clothes and footwear” increased by 14.9% due to an increase in spending on autumn and winter clothes, and “furniture and household goods” increased by 4.9% due to strong sales of air conditioners.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said, "Although prices have risen compared to a year ago, spending has increased mainly due to an increase in going out. We will continue to monitor future trends regarding the impact of high prices."
