The Director-General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Muhammad Al-Suwaidi, said that the air transport sector in the country is witnessing large and continuous growth rates in the context of recovering from the conditions imposed by the “Corona” pandemic, pointing out that the number of aircraft within the national carriers reached 504 aircraft.

Al Suwaidi added to "Emirates Today" that there are 32 national air operators registered with the authority, in addition to 430 foreign airlines registered in the database that operate regular, seasonal and irregular flights, pointing to the significant contribution of the air transport sector to the economy of the UAE.

According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the volume of investments in the civil aviation sector in the UAE exceeds one trillion dirhams, while the volume of investments in the development and expansion of airports, according to the latest statistics announced before the pandemic, reaches 85 billion dirhams to raise the capacity of more than 300 million passengers annually.

During the financial year 2020-2021, Emirates Airlines took delivery of five new A380s equipped with its latest interior cabins, including premium economy class seats.

The carrier has taken out of service two Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and one cargo plane, bringing the number of the fleet at the end of last March to 262 aircraft.

Air Arabia also recorded a net profit of 451 million dirhams during the first half of 2022. The company provided its services to more than 5.2 million passengers in the period from January to June 2022 from its five centers of operations, an increase of 131% compared to the first half of the year.
