China's EV = electric vehicle giant "BYD" has announced that it will enter the sales of EV passenger cars in the Japanese market.

In this field, Japanese automakers are also launching new cars one after another, and competition is likely to intensify.

BYD in China is a leading manufacturer of EVs in more than 70 countries and regions around the world.

The company held a press conference in Tokyo on the 21st, and announced that it will launch three types of EVs in the Japanese market, including SUVs = multipurpose sports cars and sedans, from January next year.

The distance that can be traveled on a single charge is 485 km for SUVs and 555 km for sedans, and it is equipped with a self-developed battery that reduces the amount of rare metals used and keeps costs down.

The company has been selling EV buses in Japan for seven years, but plans to open 100 dealerships in all prefectures by 2025 in line with the entry of passenger cars into Japan. ..

BYD Japan President Gakusuke Liu said, "From now on, it's not about buying or not buying an electric car, but when to buy it. I want to make it familiar to everyone in Japan."

In the field of EV, Japanese automakers are launching new cars one after another, and Hyundai Motor of South Korea is also entering the market, so competition between domestic and foreign automakers is likely to intensify.

Full-scale EV sales in Japan by manufacturers

In Japan, EVs are not as widespread as in overseas markets such as China and Europe, but manufacturers are starting full-scale sales in anticipation of future demand expansion.

Among domestic manufacturers,

▽ Toyota Motor and SUBARU launched the company's first mass-produced EV in May

▽ Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors began selling mini vehicle-sized EVs in June. ..

In addition, overseas manufacturers, mainly in Europe, are introducing EVs to Japan one after another, and Asian automobile manufacturers are also entering the market one after another.

▽ A major Korean automobile manufacturer, Hyundai Motor, has re-entered the Japanese market and started selling in May.

▽ EV sales are also available at the "China Daiichi Motor" store in China, which opened in December last year. I am considering it.

Furthermore, as the introduction of EVs is expanding in the logistics and transportation industry in order to promote efforts for decarbonization,

▽ Hino Motors launched a small EV truck in June, and

▽ Honda, Suzuki, Daihatsu, etc. are also light vehicles. We are planning to sell a commercial EV of the size.

Last year, EVs accounted for less than 1% of the passenger cars sold in Japan, but manufacturers are actively trying to capture the demand for EVs, which are of increasing interest, and how far they will spread in the future. The focus is on moving forward.
