Aeon, a major distributor, has announced that it will raise prices for three of its relatively cheap own-brand products, such as mayonnaise, from next month as raw material prices continue to rise.

According to the announcement, Aeon will raise the prices of three private brand products developed in-house: mayonnaise, cup noodles, and tissue paper from the 4th of next month.

The price increase is 40 yen for mayonnaise, 10 yen for cup noodles, and 7 yen for tissue paper, excluding tax, of which mayonnaise ranges from 158 yen to 198 yen.

The company has kept prices unchanged for up to about 5,000 of its own brand products since September last year, while the prices of familiar items have been rising one after another. It is said that it has become difficult to maintain the price of some products.

On the other hand, we will continue to maintain the prices of other products, and if we raise prices or suspend sales in the future, we will notify the store in advance.

At the press conference, AEON TOPVALU President Mitsuko Tsuchiya said, "We are always looking for ways to reduce prices rationally, and if the depreciation of the yen and the effects of world affairs ease, we would like to reduce prices immediately."

Regarding the company-branded products of major supermarkets, Seiyu also plans to raise the prices of some of the 1,200 items in sequence from next month, reducing production and distribution costs and raising the prices of relatively cheap own-brand products. The movement is gradually spreading.
