Prices are soaring to infinity and beyond… The price of diesel sold in French service stations continued to rise last week.

However, gasoline fell slightly but remains at very high levels, according to the latest official figures released on Monday.

A liter of diesel was worth an average of 2.1345 euros last week, up 6.51 cents on the previous week, according to figures released Friday by the Ministry of Energy Transition.

This high price takes into account the government discount of 18 cents per liter (in mainland France) at the pump, which should last until August.

International context

Diesel had however already been more expensive this year, during the week ended March 11 (2.1407 euros on average).

On the gasoline side, the super unleaded 95 slightly declined to 2.1290 euros (-0.19 cents).

The super unleaded 95-E10 reached 2.0866 euros (-0.94 cents).

These high prices come in the context of an overall increase in energy prices against a backdrop of war in Ukraine, supply difficulties and galloping inflation, while the European Union is preparing to end purchases of Russian oil and diesel.
