The Mango fashion group is going to cease operations in Russia, where it has
55 physical stores
, and also abandon online sales in the country.
The company has given freedom to the 65 franchised establishments to continue their activity, although they will depend on the stock they have, as reported.
The decision comes just one day after H&M announced the temporary suspension of its sales in Russia, also motivated by the invasion of Ukraine.
The movement of two of the most important companies in the sector could accelerate similar measures by other groups.
"Out of responsibility with our 800 colleagues in Russia, as well as with our franchisees and 'partners', we have tried to protect operations in the country until the last moment," Mango explains in a statement collected by
Efe
.
They have also pledged "to guarantee coverage and support for their employees in the coming months" and have made a donation of 100,000 euros to the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent,
For its part, the H&M group said it was "very concerned about the tragic events in Ukraine" and sympathized with those affected.
They had previously closed their stores in Ukraine, although in this case they did it for security.
