China News Agency, Beijing, February 23 (Reporter Chen Su) Tang Renjian, Director of the Office of the Central Rural Work Leading Group and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said on the 23rd that China will strive for a higher self-sufficiency rate of soybeans and oil crops after 5-10 years of efforts. Great improvement.

In recent years, China's annual soybean imports have been around 100 million tons. Although it fell slightly last year, it is still at a high level.

The just-released Central No. 1 document proposes to vigorously implement the project to increase the production capacity of soybeans and oilseeds.

At the press conference held by the State Council Information Office that day, Tang Renjian introduced the relevant situation.

He said that although the total amount of grain in China is currently in a tight balance, there is little problem in ensuring supply, especially rations.

There is a structural problem, that is, the self-sufficiency rate of soybean oil is relatively low.

"In recent years, with the improvement of living standards and the development of animal husbandry, China's demand for soybeans has increased significantly, and the import volume has grown rapidly. At present, domestic soybeans can meet the demand for edible consumption, and imported soybeans are mainly used for edible vegetable oil and animal husbandry. The demand for industrial feed protein." Tang Renjian said that in the next step, China will not only make good use of both domestic and international markets and resources to increase the supply of soybean oil, but more importantly, it must base itself on itself and make great efforts to adjust the structure. Expand production of soybeans and oilseeds, with as much Chinese oil in "oil bottles" as possible.

In order to expand soybean and oil crops, Tang Renjian proposed three measures.

The first is to actively restore the soybean area in Northeast China. Northeast China is the traditional main soybean producing area in China. The subsidy policy for corn and soybean producers will be improved to support the Northeast region to actively implement a reasonable rotation of soybean and corn. The national planting area has reached more than 7 million mu. This year, we will increase the promotion efforts and vigorously carry out the compound planting of soybean and corn in suitable areas such as the Huanghuaihai region, the southwest region, and the northwest region. The third is to actively develop oil production, except for the Yangtze River Basin. The rapeseed, but also vigorously develop the peanuts in the north, northwest, and North China, and woody oil crops such as camellia oil mainly in the southern mountains.

"In short, through the simultaneous development of more oil and multiple measures, after 5-10 years of efforts, the self-sufficiency rate of soybean and oil crops can be greatly improved." Tang Renjian said.
