Cameras are selling well at major consumer electronics retailers before Christmas, but some products are delayed in arrival due to a shortage of semiconductors and other parts.

At consumer electronics mass retailers in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, camera sales have been increasing since October, when the state of emergency was lifted and opportunities for people to go out and gather are increasing.

In particular, mirrorless cameras that can easily take high-quality pictures are popular, and some products have recovered to the level before the spread of infection.

However, some cameras and lenses are delayed in arrival due to a shortage of parts such as semiconductors and cannot keep up with the rapid increase in demand, so some products cannot be lined up and are waiting for arrival. It has come out.

In the year-end sales season such as Christmas, securing inventory has become an issue for expanding sales for stores that are expecting "revenge consumption", which is expected to increase the demand for shopping that had been refrained from due to the corona.

Yuma Fuchigami of the BicCamera Shinjuku East Exit store said, "There are some products that cannot be delivered due to delays in arrival, and we are proposing alternative products that meet the needs and uses of our customers."

Electric manufacturers stop new orders and delay production

Due to the global shortage of semiconductors among electric appliance manufacturers, some products, including cameras, have been affected by the suspension of new orders and delays in production.

Of these, the Sony Group has stopped accepting new orders for some products such as digital single-lens cameras and video cameras since the middle of last month.

The reason is that the company is delaying the procurement of parts due to a global shortage of semiconductors, and there is no prospect of resuming orders.

In addition to the shortage of semiconductors, Canon has been delayed in shipping some products such as mirrorless cameras and lenses due to the impact of the Corona disaster on the operation of factories in Southeast Asia.

The company says it is urgently responding by procuring replacement parts.
