Iranian diplomacy spokesman Said Khatibzadeh welcomed King Salman of Saudi Arabia's speech to the

United Nations General Assembly

He said he hoped the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Riyadh would help build trust between the two countries.

"

We have already had very good discussions, especially about security in the Persian Gulf and serious progress has been made,

 " Said Khatibzadeh said, adding that these discussions could help establish good relations between Tehran and Riyadh. .

Three rounds of talks have already taken place between Iran and Saudi Arabia in Baghdad

.

According to the Iranian ambassador, a fourth round of talks is planned between the two countries.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have been on the sidelines since the severance of their diplomatic relations in January 2016. The two countries are opposed over Syria, Yemen, but also over the situation in Bahrain and Lebanon.

Riyadh is also worried about Iran's nuclear program.

Talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia began after US President Joe Biden made a change in his policy towards Riyadh.
