The surplus of rice has become serious due to the drop in demand for eating out due to the impact of the new corona, but the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has significantly reduced the planted area of rice harvested in the fall from the previous year's results, up to a maximum of 6. Announced that it is expected to decrease by 15,000 hectares.

It is not expected that the price of rice will drop significantly due to the decrease in production.

On the 29th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries held a council on the supply and demand outlook for rice.

In this, we announced the outlook for the planted area of rice for main food harvested in the fall, which was compiled based on reports from prefectures.

According to this, the acreage nationwide is expected to reach a maximum of 65,000 hectares from the previous year's results, a significant decrease of nearly 5% to about 1.3 million hectares.

This will reduce production to 6.94 million tonnes.

It will fall below 7 million tons for the first time since 2004, which is comparable, and it is not expected that the price will drop significantly.

By prefecture, the acreage is expected to decrease by more than 5% in 12 roads and prefectures, mainly in areas with high production such as Niigata, Hokkaido, Akita, and Ibaraki.

Regarding rice for the main food, the surplus of rice has become serious because the demand for eating out has been declining due to the spread of the infection of the new corona since last year.

As a countermeasure, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has strengthened support for farmers who convert rice for main food into livestock feed.
