It was three Frenchies based in… Los Angeles who decided to create a replica of what is one of France's most legendary rally cars, the Renault 5 Turbo.

And you will see that they do what it takes to stick as close as possible to the original concept.

Carbon

We see it first in the look of the Turbo 3, which is practically consistent in every way to that of the original.

The only concessions to modernity: a body made of carbon, LED light units and rims (with a retro look) significantly larger than at the time.

And for good reason, these wheels will have a little harder life, as you will read later.

Modern too, the digital dashboard, integrated into a dashboard, admittedly completely recreated, but in a minimalist style very inspired by that of the 80s, like that of the seats.

True 5

The most crazy ?

Under this body, there is no tubular chassis or ultra-modern carbon "bathtub".

The people at Légende Automobiles are really starting from a first-generation Renault 5 chassis, and transforming it in an artisanal way, as Heuliez was doing at the time.

Sweet madness as we like it.

And the mechanics?

No, no electric mill as in the "new 5" announced by Renault.

Other than that, we still know very little.

However, the designers promise that the engine (placed in the center of the car, of course) will be an "old-fashioned" petrol unit but of modern design, that it will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and that it will send to rear wheels the trifle of… 400 hp.

We are far from the 160 hp of the original 5 Turbo!

Légende Automobiles plans to build its Turbo 3 in small series next year, and sell it at a price that will certainly be prohibitive.

But we don't blame them.
