Due to the sharp rise in the number of corona infections, the federal government will classify the Netherlands, Greece and parts of Denmark as risk areas from Sunday.

The Robert Koch Institute announced on Friday.

The federal government currently has 122 countries wholly or partially in one of the three corona risk categories.

Holiday regions such as Spain and Turkey are among the easy risk areas.

Portugal and Cyprus are even designated as high incidence areas with particularly high numbers of infections.

Returnees from these two countries who are not fully vaccinated or have recovered must be quarantined for 5 to 10 days.

Anyone who returns from the eleven countries with a high spread of particularly dangerous virus variant areas outside of Europe even has to be in quarantine for 14 days.

This also applies to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

In a recent survey by the YouGov opinion research institute, two thirds of Germans said it was not justifiable to take a vacation in a region classified as a corona risk area by the federal government. Only 25 percent said they think vacationing in risk areas is possible. 8 percent did not provide any information.
