Nissan Qashqai 2021 -

DR

At a time when all manufacturers have chosen to offer hybrid versions (rechargeable or not) or 100% electric of their models, Nissan is opting for another path with its new Qashqai.

This solution is called e-Power, and has already made the Note happy in Japan for several years.

Concretely, the e-Power system consists of a battery, a 154 horsepower gasoline engine with variable compression, an inverter and an electric motor.

The peculiarity of this device is that the gasoline engine is used exclusively to generate electricity, while the electric motor drives the wheels.

A bit like a generator, in short.

It will be remembered that the Opel Ampera and Chevrolet Volt also used this principle.

But what is the point, you will say, in burning gasoline to produce electricity?

There are actually two.

The first is energy, because the heat engine always operates at optimal speed, with the best possible efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions compared to a traditional engine.

Unfortunately, the car is not yet homologated, it is impossible to know the efficiency of this new Qashqai e-Power.

To be checked, then.

The second advantage of this technology concerns driving pleasure: as the electric motor is the only one to operate the wheels, the response to the accelerator is immediate, which is not the case with a traditional thermal or hybrid engine.

Bigger

For the rest, this new Qashqai, conceived and designed in London, is more dynamic than the old one.

Bigger too, whether in length, width or height.

The increased wheelbase benefits rear passengers, whose knee room increases by 28 mm.

As for the trunk, it gains 50 liters thanks in particular to the lower floor.

The other thing that is striking about Nissan's new SUV is the perceived quality.

Here we are in what is best in the segment, with careful ergonomics and an infotainment system offering a wide range of connected services including the integration of smartphones, onboard WiFi for 7 devices and a dedicated application. allowing interaction with the vehicle.

Best of all, the new 10.8-inch head-up display is the largest in the segment.

The launch of the new Qashqai is expected in the coming weeks.

Can't wait to put this e-Power to the test ...
