JERA, an electric power company that integrates the thermal power generation businesses of TEPCO and Chubu Electric Power, has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Malaysian state-owned company to produce ammonia that can be used as power generation fuel without emitting carbon dioxide, and will use renewable energy. I decided to aim for the production of the used ammonia.

JERA, the largest thermal power generation company in Japan, has set a goal of reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by power generation to virtually zero by 2050, and plans to utilize ammonia and hydrogen, which do not emit carbon dioxide, as fuel.

According to the people concerned, the company is aiming for in-house production of ammonia, and as part of that, it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia's state-owned company "PETRONAS" and will obtain technical cooperation.

In the future, we are aiming to produce ammonia in Malaysia by adopting a manufacturing method that uses renewable energy electricity that does not emit carbon dioxide in the manufacturing process.

In parallel with this, from the new fiscal year onward, we will start a demonstration experiment using ammonia as part of the fuel at a power plant in Aichi Prefecture, and in the 2040s, equipment that uses only ammonia without using LNG = liquefied natural gas We are also aiming for practical use.

Regarding ammonia, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and a council of domestic companies have put together a plan to use 3 million tons of ammonia annually in 2030 as fuel for thermal power plants.
