Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) confirmed that Dubai has succeeded in reducing carbon emissions by 22%, surpassing the target set to reduce emissions by 16% by 2021.
The managing director and CEO of the authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said: “In Dubai, we have a clear goal to increase the percentage of clean energy in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy to provide 75% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, in addition to enhancing the employment of digital transformation and networks. "The smart tools and tools of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to transform Dubai into the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world."
He added: “To achieve these goals, we are working on developing renewable and clean energy projects, most notably (the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex), and rehabilitating more than 30,000 buildings in Dubai by 2030, to ensure energy efficiency;
And the (Shams Dubai) initiative, where more than 6,500 sites have so far been connected to the Dubai electricity grid, and (Al-Sheraa Building), the new headquarters of the Authority, which will be the highest, largest and smartest zero-energy government building in the world.
He stressed that Dubai has achieved important results in the strategy to reduce carbon emissions, as it succeeded in reducing carbon emissions by 22% compared to the usual business scenario, surpassing the target set to reduce emissions by 16% by 2021.
In addition, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority won two awards from the "Middle East and North Africa Green Building Awards", during a ceremony organized by the Emirates Green Building Council, at the conclusion of its ninth conference.
DEWA won the “Zero Emission Building of the Year” project for the “Innovation Center” at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex.
And the "Sustainable Design Project of the Year" award for "Al Sail Building", the new headquarters.
