Nearly seven million workers are currently unemployed, which means that many businesses are closed. But behind the scenes, we are already thinking about the recovery and how to run production while respecting the sanitary guidelines.

INVESTIGATION

The containment decreed to fight against the coronavirus put dozens and dozens of companies in slowdown, even to stop, as well as nearly seven million workers in partial unemployment. But behind the scenes, the neurons are already running at full speed to prepare for the recovery. Because when the time comes to deconfinement, it will be impossible to resume as before. The priority will still be to protect employees, and it is the ability of companies to meet this challenge that will determine whether they can resume their activities.

The entire industry organization to rethink

In industry, for example, the entire organization must be rethought to respect barrier gestures. "It is necessary that in a production line, the positions are distant from one or two meters, it is not easy, in particular in the trades of the car", recognizes the president of the Union of industries and trades of metallurgy (UIMM) Hubert Mongon.

Provisions must also be made on the organization of the teams. "For those who were in 3-8, companies are looking at how they can make the transition to 2-8, time to leave two or three hours to clean workstations and production lines." Finally, explains Hubert Mongon, "a lot is being studied around the layout of the changing rooms, dining halls and means of transport to meet health requirements."

A recovery date still unknown

At PSA, we promise that the tools will be cleaned every hour, that the doors will remain open to avoid touching the handles. There will also be a temperature measurement at the entrance to the factory. At Renault, an agreement was even signed with the unions to anticipate the reorganization of working time. Employees can work 6 days a week if necessary. The annual closing dates in August could be postponed. Finally, the Vinci group plans to start with test sites to check what works and what does not.

It remains to determine the date of recovery. The one that is mentioned most often is that of Tuesday, March 14, after the Easter weekend. But it is necessary to find voluntary employees and, above all, available. The question then arises of resuming school for children. Depending on whether it's May or rather June or September, it changes everything.

And then to restart, your supplier must have restarted, too. A general recovery would be more effective. For the moment, no one is able to say if it is really possible, but everyone is working on it.
