“Residence is not required on smartphones” Lawson will be at the experimental store on November 12 at 19:40 next year

Lawson, a major convenience store, will start experimenting with a store next year that makes it unnecessary to pay at the cash register by using a camera to identify the product the customer has picked up as one of the measures against labor shortages. It is a policy.

This was clarified by President Sadanobu Takemasa of Lawson in the expert review meeting of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry held on the 12th.

According to it, Lawson will start an experiment of a store that does not have a cash register next year as one of the countermeasures for the labor shortage that is becoming serious.

This means that the store where the experiment is conducted uses a camera to identify the product that the customer has picked up, and the payment is made using a smartphone.

The company is also developing robots that automatically replace products in the store.

Lawson President Takemasu said after the meeting of experts, “There are a lot of work at convenience stores that haven't changed since the Showa era. I want to make use of the power of digital and robots to improve efficiency.” explained.
