In an audio message, ISIS confirmed Thursday, October 31, the death of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, killed in a US operation in Syria, and named his successor by threatening the US with retaliation.

" O Muslims, O Mujahideen, IS soldiers (...), we mourn the commander of the believers Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, " said in an audio message posted on the application Telegram Abu Hamza Al-Qurachi, presented as the new spokesman for the extremist organization.

This confirmation comes five days after the announcement of his death by Donald Trump in an American operation in Syria. In his seven-minute audio recording, the new spokesman for the jihadist organization called for revenge for the death, specifically threatening the US with retaliation and calling the president a " foolish old man ." " Do not rejoice America, continued Abu Hamza Al-Qurachi, he came who will make you forget the horrors, " Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and " the bitter cuts (...) whose taste will seem sweet to you ".

The Islamic State group has indeed indicated in this same audio message that the consultative assembly of the organization had pledged allegiance to Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Qurachi as " commander of the believers " and new " caliph of the Muslims ". This name was rarely mentioned among the potential successors of Baghdadi.
