Will there be a government of national unity in Israel? Tuesday's parliamentary elections failed to produce a clear majority. And several politicians call for a coalition uniting the two main formations: Blue-white Benny Gantz and Likud Benyamin Netanyahu. The leaders of these two formations now accept the principle: Benny Gantz since the election night, Benyamin Netanyahu since Thursday. But the creation of such a coalition seems still distant: everyone claims the victory and the post of Prime Minister.

" We will not accept the dictates, " Benny Gantz told Benyamin Netanyahu. At the beginning of the day on Thursday, the outgoing Prime Minister invited him to start negotiations for the formation of a government , but after having signed a document to the other right-wing parties in which all pledge to form a coalition together with Benyamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister.

" To form a unity government, we must not come with political blocs and maneuvers, but rather with honesty, patriotism, responsibility and seriousness, " says the former chief of staff whose list arrived in head of the legislative. " I intend to form a broad and liberal unity government ," he says, assuring that negotiations have already begun.

" I am surprised and disappointed, " reacted for his part Benyamin Netanyahu who highlights the support of other right-wing parties to claim the post of Prime Minister. The country does not " need other elections and certainly not a government that relies on anti-Zionist parties ," he said in reference to a possible Blue-white alliance with Arab formations.

The two leaders are sending the blame for the blockage. None of them will make a concession before the president designates the one who will be in charge of forming the government. It will be early next week.
