The Taishan 2 nuclear reactor in China went into commercial operation this Saturday, September 7th. An announcement made by the Chinese group CGN, in charge of the project with the French EDF. The schedule has been respected, which comforts the French company, which is struggling to convince elsewhere, especially in France.

The commissioning of the second EPR nuclear reactor is likely to boost EDF's morale, even if what it considers to be the validation of this technology, which the French company has developed with Framatome, is done on Chinese soil. .

The French group owns 30% of the joint venture - formed with two Chinese partners - to build and operate the two reactors of 1,750 megawatts each.

The first one, which went into commercial operation last year, works very well. This reassures the French energy group, which is struggling to complete other projects started for several years.

Other reactors in negotiations

The commissioning of the EPR reactor at Flamanville in Normandy, which was planned before the end of this year, will be postponed for at least another 3 years . A new delay that generates additional costs. Not to mention that EDF has two other third generation reactor construction projects underway in the UK.

The French electrician aims to obtain the construction of two other reactors EPR, always across the Channel and it is in negotiation with India, which wants to have six EPR on the same site.
