On the morning of May 14, a woman in her 60s was assaulted and stabbed at Nedre Långvinkelsgatan in Helsingborg when she was on her way to work. The injuries she sustained were so severe that she was losing her life.

Shortly thereafter, a 29-year-old man was arrested at a hostel in Copenhagen. He was indicted in September.

Helsingborg District Court has now announced its verdict in the case: The evidence against the man is convincing and the offense has a penalty value of 12 years in prison. But when the man is judged to have committed the act under the influence of a serious mental disorder, he will instead be forced into custody until a court finds that he no longer needs it.

In addition, he will pay a damages of just over SEK 160,000 to the woman.
