A festival to taste seasonal green onions was held in Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture, which is known as the production center of Fukaya green onions.
This Fukaya Onion Festival is held every year by a group of local eateries and farmers who want to learn about the appeal of Fukaya onion at this time when the sweetness of green onions increases with the real cold.
At the venue, 16 stores sell dishes using Fukaya green onions.
There were also skewered pork belly cutlet with a large serving of chopped green onions, and okonomiyaki-style taiyaki sandwiched between green onions and cabbage. Visitors ate deliciously.
There was also a corner where you could choose your favorite green onion from among the seven types and bake it on a charcoal grill to compare the foods. Families enjoyed the sweetness of the green onions by peeling them and eating them with soy sauce.
A woman in her 50s in Saitama Prefecture said, "It's my first time to eat a whole green onion and it's very sweet. I want to buy it and go home and cook onion."
