  • Technology All the information about the Mobile World Congress

This week Barcelona once again becomes the world capital of mobile telephony.

The Mobile World Congress returns to the city with the hope of attracting almost 95,000 attendees, 10,000 more than last year's event.

The figure is still somewhat lower than what used to be recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic but, if it reaches it, it could boast of being very close to recovering normality.

In other areas it can already be said that it has achieved this.

This year the fair has once again served, for example, as a backdrop for the

year's major launches in telephony

.

At least for a specific one, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

4YFN (4 Years From Now): the 'little brother' of the Mobile World Congress is getting older

This is another new adventure in which the Chinese brand has aligned itself with the prestigious camera company Leica.

A collaboration that began in 2022 with the 12S Ultra and that now leaves three smartphones (12S Ultra, 13 Ultra and now this 14 Ultra) in which the emphasis is not so much on the processor or the screen as on the

camera module.

The 14 Ultra is equipped with a quad camera setup with a range of focal lengths starting at 12mm.

up to 120mm.

and that for the main camera, with a variable aperture of /1.63-4.0, it uses a 1-inch image sensor (the larger the sensor, the better light sensitivity it has and the easier it is to capture scenes with poor lighting).

The camera, which occupies a good part of the back of the phone, is joined this year by some

new features

, such as the possibility of recording video in 8K quality at 30 fps, the 5,300 mAh battery or the new AMOLED screen design. 6.73 inches, all wrapped in a design that stands out for the use of vegan leather in the case.

The Ultra range is an interesting experiment for Xiaomi because it

allows it to break with the company image focused on the low

and mid-range that it often has.

It is a 1,499 euro phone that tries to go head to head with the best releases from Apple or Samsung.

Version 14 -without Ultra- is somewhat more modest in features and screen size but starts at 999 euros, also a price that puts it in the league of the big phones on the market.

Both have the same processor, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

New tablet, watches and bracelets

In addition to the new phones, Xiaomi has also taken advantage of the Barcelona event to launch

a new tablet, the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro

, with a 12.4-inch, 3K resolution screen built on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

The device uses the same operating system that the company has created for its phones, HyperOS.

It is an adapted version of Android with some of its own functions and tools.

To complete the catalog of new features, the company has launched

two new watches

at this year's Mobile World Congress , the Xiaomi Watch S3 and Xiaomi Watch 2, and a smart bracelet, the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro.

The three devices are focused on measuring physical activity but the watches offer greater functionality, with access to applications and a higher level of integration with other brand products.

The Xiaomi Watch S3 is a 1.43-inch spherical screen watch

that offers more than 150 sports modes

and a 12-channel heart rate monitoring module that measures more accurately than previous generations of devices.

The price starts at 149 euros.

The Watch 2 has a similar screen, but uses Google Wear OS as its operating system instead of a version of HyperOS.

It also incorporates for the first time a remote camera function, which allows users to preview their mobile camera directly on the wrist to take photos and record videos.

Its recommended retail price is 199 euros.

The most affordable device of the three is the Smart Band 8 smart bracelet, which is priced at €69 but includes some of the watches' features, such as professional-level sports tracking with a wide selection of more than 150 modes.

It has a new 1.74-inch rectangular AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a resolution of 336x480 pixels.

With typical use,

its internal battery can last up to 14 days.
