  • Franciacorta wine: five labels to make you fond of Italian "champagne"

"Everyday wine, the one that pleases us every day without having to dig into our pockets more than necessary, continues to stand out for its quality, understood not only as a technical virtue, but as an element through which the honest expression of a grape or a place is offered." With these words, Antonio Candelas, director of Mi Vino, presents the 14th edition of the Everyday Wine Guide, published by Opuswine. A sort of oenological bible for wine lovers that, year after year, offers its particular selection of extraordinary references for less than 10 euros.

We use this guide's Roll of Honour, made up of wines that have reached or exceeded 90 points, to choose ten labels that will help us climb the January slope lighter.

Care Cariñena Nativa 2021

"Complexity and purity, the new face of Carignan", say the experts of the Everyday Wine Guide. A tasty and well-structured red wine from Zaragoza, to which the fruit gives a tremendously addictive touch of energy and freshness, balanced by an ageing of eight months in American oak.

Alvear Fino C.B.

It is one of the most iconic finos in Montilla-Moriles, made by the oldest winery in this region of Cordoba. Aromatic, with notes of almond blossom and toasted notes and that dry and sharp touch so typical of this style of wine. Pedro Ximénez in its purest form. A delight to enjoy at the bar and put to the test in the kitchen.

Joaquín Rebolledo 2022

The authenticity of the Godello de Valdeorras in the glass. A white wine made from vines over 30 years old that stands out for its herbaceous, citrus and aniseed aromas, and for a fruit that gives way to floral and mineral nuances that prolong the pleasure until the next drink.

Verdejo White Tablecloth 2022

Made in a sustainable way from the vines that the Álvarez y Díez winery (one of the founders of the D.O. Rueda) owns in the Pago de La Serna, at an altitude of 770 metres, on a terrace created in the Tertiary era by the Duero River, this white on lees is an exercise in style on what a young Verdejo should look like: Intense, fresh, fruity and expressive, with good structure and acidity.

Monteabellón 5 Months 2021

This wine spends five months in barrels to acquire its characteristic nuances of liquorice, its volume and its structure. It is the necessary time, not a month more or a month less, for the wood to integrate in a respectful way and for the riverside Tempranillo not to lose its fruity and wild heart.

From left. Right: Muga Blanco 2022, Care Cariñena Nativa 2021, Viña Sastre Rosado Marcelina Gómez 2022, Sa Natura 2020 and Alvear Fino C.B.

Muga White 2022

Each Muga Blanco is exceptional, but according to the Everyday Wine Guide, the 2022 vintage has something more. Fresh, tasty, with notes of white fruit, herbal and citrus. A wine with a lot of personality, intense and aromatic, and that floral touch that makes it different. The essence of Rioja white wine with the particular touch that Malvasia and Garnacha Blanca bring to the appreciated Viura.

Young Stone 2022

This organic red wine from Toro, made exclusively with the grapes produced by the Estancia Piedra vineyard in Pago de Cantadal, is barrel-free because it seeks to reflect the freshest, fruitiest and softest part of the variety. The result is a juicy red wine with intense aromas and flavours, a true reflection of the moment of glory and renewal that the appellation is experiencing.

Sa Natura 2020

"The maximum expression of our red varieties most rooted in the earth: Grenache and Carignan", explains the winery of the D.O.P Terra Alta Celler Piñol. Pleasant on the palate but no less complex, this impeccably produced Mediterranean red, with an ageing that is barely perceptible but that brings harmony to the whole, seduces with its wide range of aromas, its creamy texture and its persistence.

Tinacula White 2022

A new edition of the most representative and extraordinary white wine from the Cuenca winery Las Calzadas, in the Ribera del Júcar. Made from marbled grapes, it is the only wine of this almost extinct variety. Aged for four months in clay jars, it is, according to the Everyday Wine Guide, "one of those accessible exclusive elaborations of which there are not many in life".

Viña Sastre Rosé Marcelina Gómez 2022

Complete, tasty, intense and balanced, with a perfect acidity that translates into a long and indulgent mid-palate, this rosé from Hermanos Sastre, in Ribera del Duero, honors the winery's alma mater, grandmother Marcelina, who worked so hard to build this great wine-growing area.
