• The 10 wines of the year according to METRÓPOLI
  • Seven magnum wines that can't be missed this holiday season

Any celebration becomes special when there is a sparkling wine involved. Here we have selected some of the top champagnes on the market to make a luxury toast to the new year.

Moët & Chandon's new jewel

The French firm celebrates its 280th anniversary with exceptional champagne, made from three carefully selected grape varieties from seven vintages. Collection Impériale Création No. 1 is the latest venture by the winery's master, Benoît Gouez, who promises a new release of Moët Collection Impériale every two years. The No. 1 is part of the Haute Oenology concept developed by Gouez, which has dispensed with dosing to launch the first natural brut in the winery's history. Based on the 2013 vintage (42.5%), it mixes six others: 2012, 2010, 2008, 2006, 2004 and 2000. "The wines have been selected for their ageing potential and expression," Gouez describes. This special edition is available at the maison's usual points of sale and soon at Club del Gourmet in El Corte Inglés. Its retail price will be around 250 euros.

DOM PÉRIGNON ROSÉ 2009

This champagne brings out the brute strength of the red of the Pinot Noir grape in an outstanding blend. It is a full-bodied and enveloping wine, round and creamy, sweet and voluptuous. On the nose it has notes of rose, orange oil and saffron. Price: 269 euros.
