A T-rex skull soon to be auctioned in New York

A T-rex skull, named "Maximus", will be auctioned on December 9 in New York;

reports CNN.

This is an exceptional piece since this dinosaur skull is one of the most complete ever discovered;

said Sotheby's.

It could thus be sold at around 20 million dollars.

The skull weighs 91 kg and is almost two meters high.

Its conservation is exceptional.

It would rival what is found in the greatest museums.

“Even the smallest and most delicate bones are intact,” Henry Galiano, palaeontology consultant for Sotheby's, told the American channel.

Discovered in “the T-rex capital of the world”

Paleontologists found Maximus' skull in South Dakota, "one of the most concentrated areas for T-rex remains."

So much so that the area has been referred to as “the T-rex capital of the world”.

It was between 2020 and 2021 that Maximus was brought to light.

The large carnivorous dinosaur is said to have lived 76 million years ago.

On examining the skull, two large holes appear;

But it is difficult to say if this injury caused the death of the dinosaur.

Dinosaur remains are regularly sold at auction.

Last May, the skeleton of a Deinonychus antirrhopus was sold for 12.4 million dollars.

But the record belongs to a T-Rex that sold for $31.8 million in 2020.
