It is the first time since the law went into effect that a representative of a prime contractor has been prosecuted for the death of a subcontractor.

In March, a worker in his 50s fell and died at the construction site of a new metal processing plant in Daegu.



While tightening the bolts on an 11m high workbench, he fell to the floor without the seat belt he was wearing connected to the workbench.

The prosecution found that the representative of the prime contractor A who entrusted the on-site construction was responsible for the death of the worker, and charged him with violating the Act on the Punishment of Serious Accidents. was indicted without detention.



He believes that the failure of the main agency to establish safety procedures or standards for the working environment of subcontractors, such as failing to establish a management policy for safety and work procedures to identify and improve risk factors, was also the cause of death.

Prosecutors explained that this was the first case in which the representative of a subcontractor was held responsible for the death of a subcontractor, and the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Act made such a disposition possible.



The prosecution also brought the subcontractor's representative and the on-site director to trial on charges of violating the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
