A shaman who killed a teenage girl while performing exorcism was sentenced to imprisonment in the first trial.

According to the legal community on the 18th, the Seoul Central District Court's 3rd independent criminal judge (Judge Yang Hwan-seung) sentenced A (59), who was charged with gross negligence and manslaughter, to two years in prison.

In 2015, Mr. A received a request from a woman to do good to her daughter B (19), who has a first-class intellectual disability.

In the process of exorcism, Mr. A, who responded to the request, put one hand into the victim's mouth and pressed the victim's chest with the other hand for 15 minutes.

Then, Ms. B showed symptoms of forced vomiting, and was taken to the hospital emergency room for asphyxiation due to airway obstruction.

Ms. B was treated, but she eventually died.

In the courtroom, Mr. A claimed that the victim died due to an idiosyncratic constitution, and argued that there was no causal relationship between his actions and the death of her Ms. B.

However, the court did not accept Mr. A's claim, saying that it can be considered that the victim died due to Mr. A's gross negligence.

The judge pointed out the negligence of Mr. A, saying, "If you vomit while lying on the floor, it is easy to foresee that breathing stops due to suffocation."

He continued, "Mr. A continued to act injurious to the body even though he had no medical knowledge and made no preparations for any accidents that could occur in the process." look,” he added.

Previously, in 2019, a shaman burned a woman in her 20s under the pretext of performing an exorcism ritual, and instead of treating it, she said, "You must not give food and water to a ghost," and the woman died. .

In response, other shamans commented, "When performing a rite, a safety device must be in place and several people must watch it." "If a person died due to witchcraft, it is highly likely that it is an abnormal method or a crime masquerading as witchcraft."
