Prosecutor's Office "Lee Jae-myung, raised by 4 steps after self-examination" stated in the indictment

Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung was recently brought to trial on charges of making false statements during the last presidential election.

When I looked at the prosecution's indictment, it was stated that it was Lee's decision to change the use of the Baekhyeon-dong land during the Seongnam Mayor's time, not because of pressure from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The suspicion of Baekhyeon-dong was that hundreds of billions of won in development profits were returned to private companies by upgrading the use from green areas to semi-residential areas at once.

President Lee Jae-myung, who approved the change of use during his time as mayor of Seongnam, has argued that it was due to pressure from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

He said he had received 24 memorandums from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Food Research Institute requesting that it be converted into a quasi-residential area in accordance with the mandatory provisions of the Innovation City Act.

The results of the prosecution's investigation were different.

"The 24 official documents are all after the change of use," the prosecution said, "not only was it irrelevant to the decision to change the use area, but also did not request a change."

Separately from the 24 cases, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport requested cooperation to Seongnam City twice in 2014 for timely sale of the site.

The prosecution judged that the increase in the use of the site by four steps was decided by CEO Lee first as an internal policy after self-examination.

He also refuted the claim that he did not know about the late Kim Moon-ki, the former head of the development department of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation during his mayor days.

The two stated that in 2009, when former Deputy Director Kim was an employee of a construction company and CEO Lee was a lawyer, they participated in discussions and seminars together while improving the remodeling system.

In addition, the fact that former Deputy Director Kim requested his company to send a holiday gift to Lee Jae-myung's office was also newly revealed through the indictment.
