Democratic control of the police should be done by the people. Prior to attending the meeting, the chiefs of the police put on masks engraved with a determined phrase as a group.

They gathered from all over the country to voice their opposition to the establishment of a police department within the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, scheduled for the 2nd of next month.

It is the first time that a high-ranking superintendent has convened a general meeting in protest against government policy in a police organization with a top-down atmosphere.

In the meeting that started at 2 pm yesterday (23rd), about 190 police chiefs participated in person or via video to discuss countermeasures.

Of the 600 or so general and police chiefs across the country, more than 350 people who expressed their opposition to the establishment of a police station all agreed by sending flower pots of Mugunghwa with their real names written on them.

Police chiefs agreed that establishing a police department and enacting command rules was a historical regression and was inappropriate.

He pointed out that the process for collecting various opinions was insufficient, and suggested that the enactment process be put on hold for the time being.

It is known that the results of the meeting will be forwarded to the acting commissioner of the National Police Agency.

At around 8 pm yesterday evening, not long after the meeting, the National Police Agency issued a standby order for Superintendent Ryu Sam-young, the head of the Ulsan Central Police Station, who played a leading role, such as proposing the first meeting of the national police chiefs.

Earlier, during the meeting, the National Police Agency announced that it would respond strictly to the police chiefs who attended the meeting despite the dissolution order, but it was the first time among the attendees to take immediate personnel action against Superintendent Ryu.

The National Police Agency has also begun inspections of 50 other police chiefs who attended the meeting, and conflicts and confusion within the police are expected to continue for the time being about ten days before the establishment of the police station.
