The police, in cooperation with Chinese public security, operated a call center in China and discovered a phone financial fraud organization that took billions of won through voice phishing.

The Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency's anti-corruption and economic crime investigation team announced today (26th) that 10 people including 6 Koreans and 4 Chinese were arrested by Chinese police, including a man in his 30s.

A and others are accused of setting up a call center in an apartment in Zhejiang Province, China and extorting 8.3 billion won from 236 Koreans through voice phishing from January 2019 to recently.

They randomly send false payment text messages to domestic mobile phone subscribers saying "Payment approval for ○○ Mall has been completed, please contact me if it is not you" to induce them to make an inquiry. It was investigated that the crime was done by fraudulently receiving money transferred by impersonating it, saying, "I need to move the money remaining in the account to a safe account because there is concern about further damage due to leakage of personal information."

It was found that General Manager A divided the organization into a DB (Data Base) team that randomly transmits false payment texts and a fraudulent team that communicates with the victims.

Among them, four Koreans were already wanted for voice phishing crimes in the past.

Earlier, last year, the police received intelligence that Mr. A's party was committing a voice phishing crime in China, and after collecting various evidence for three months with the National Intelligence Service, they requested a joint investigation from the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Office.

After that, the Public Security Office, which received the investigation data about Mr. A and his party from the police, started the investigation on November 5 last year, and then raided the call center on the 2nd of last month and arrested all of Mr.

A and his group were recently charged with arrest and are being tried in China.

A police official said, "It is an exemplary case of international cooperation in which we shared and cooperated with public security through a local police officer in China to crack down on a local call center and catch a voice phishing gang." I will do my best,” he said.
