Today (6th), three firefighters who lost contact while trying to extinguish a fire at a new construction site of a frozen warehouse in Cheongbuk-eup, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do were found dead.

The tragedy of the fire at the Icheon Deokpyeong Logistics Center in Coupang, an e-commerce company, in which one firefighter died in June last year has been reproduced for the first time in half a year.

According to Gyeonggi-do, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters search team found two firefighters, including Mr. A, who had collapsed on the second floor of the 7-story refrigerated warehouse building around 12:22 pm today.

They were dead at the time of discovery.

One other firefighter who went missing at the scene of the fire with Mr. A was also found dead at around 12:41 pm not far from those found earlier.

This fire was first reported yesterday around 11:46 pm.

The report said that a fire had occurred on the first floor of the building.

The fire department issued the first stage of response within 14 minutes of receiving the report, and after extinguishing the fire, it turned off the big fire at around 6:32 am today and lifted the response stage at 7:10 am.

However, the extinguished embers abruptly spread again, and in the end, the second stage of the response was issued at 9:21 am.

The first stage of response is an alarm that all fire department personnel are dispatched to, and the second stage of response mobilizes manpower and equipment from 5 to 6 adjacent fire stations.

It is estimated that the firefighters who died, including Mr. A, were isolated in the process of rapid re-spreading during the firefighting operation.

They were put into the second floor firefighting work around 9:08 am.

At the scene of the fire, they were put in carrying an oxygen cylinder with a capacity that could withstand 30 to 50 minutes, and the last communication was confirmed at 9:30 am.

There were a total of 5 firefighters who worked on the 2nd floor with Mr. A, and 2 of them escaped by themselves.

The two escaped inhaled smoke and were taken to a nearby hospital, but it was confirmed that they were not seriously injured.

A detailed investigation by the police and fire department is necessary for the circumstances of the death of Mr. A, but so far, it is similar to the case of the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center fire.

On June 17, last year, a fire broke out at the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center around 5:35 am, and the fire department issued a second stage of response within 20 minutes of receiving the report, mobilizing 60 equipment and 150 personnel to extinguish the fire. .

The fire gradually subsided around 8:20 am, and accordingly, the fire department sequentially lifted the warning order issued earlier while cleaning up the remaining fire.

However, around 11:50 a.m., the flames began to rise again from the inside, and the firefighters who were working to extinguish the fire inside the building received an emergency evacuation order and evacuated to the outdoors.

However, in the process, Kim Dong-sik (52), the rescue team leader of the 119 rescue team at the Gwangju Fire Station in Gyeonggi-do, could not get out, and he was found dead two days later after the fire was completely extinguished.

It was investigated that the reason the fire spread again at that time was that the fire spread as various loads including combustibles accumulated in the warehouse collapsed.

An official from the fire department today said, "In this case of the fire, as it is a new construction site for a new refrigerated warehouse, there are a lot of insulation materials, oxygen cylinders and LPG gas cylinders inside, so it is difficult to extinguish the fire. "It is estimated that he was suddenly isolated due to the rapid spread of combustion and the collapse of the structure, although he wore safety gear for the eyesight."
