Former President Park Geun-hye (69), who was hospitalized at Samsung Seoul Hospital while imprisoned in Seoul Detention Center, is expected to receive treatment for chronic diseases at an outside hospital by early next year.



The Ministry of Justice said, "According to the opinion of medical staff at the hospital, former President Park was scheduled to receive inpatient treatment for about one month, but he plans to continue inpatient treatment according to the opinions of experts from orthopedic surgery, dentistry, and mental health departments that he needs more than six weeks." said.



Former President Park was hospitalized at Samsung Seoul Hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 22nd of last month.



The correctional authorities have decided when to return inmates who have been hospitalized outside hospitals, respecting the opinions of the doctors in charge.



Accordingly, former President Park is expected to be discharged from the hospital in February next year at the earliest, unless he is released due to a pardon or suspension of execution.



After being arrested on March 31, 2017, former President Park, who has been receiving treatment for shoulder and back problems several times, was admitted to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital in January and July of this year as well.



In September 2019, he was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital and underwent shoulder surgery.



Former President Park was sentenced to 20 years in prison, fined 18 billion won and a fine of 3.5 billion won, at the Supreme Court in January of this year on charges of national nongdan and reimbursing expenses for special activities by the National Intelligence Service.
