Sometimes it takes crazy ideas for the future to illustrate incrustations of the present.

BMW Motorrad recently went public with a “vision” called Amby, an abbreviation for Adaptive Mobility.

A concept vehicle with an electric drive, half bicycle, half motorcycle, was shown.

Three speed levels - 25 km / h for cycle paths, 45 for inner-city streets, otherwise 60 - can be selected, either manually or automatically via geofencing, with which the vehicle recognizes the route currently being traveled.

In an app, according to the vision, the necessary driving license classes are stored and the necessary insurance categories are used.

Such daring thoughts will cause fainting spells in government offices and in the castles of the doubters, but one shouldn't simply brush it aside as crazy. For a start, for example, the existing S-Pedelec, a famous means of transport, could be freed from its legal shackles. The electric bicycles, which can reach speeds of up to 45 km / h, are easily on par with cars on commuter routes of around 20 kilometers, but unfortunately they are not usable. Because they are assigned to mopeds, they are not allowed to use cycle, field and forest paths.

This results in the compulsion to take detours, to use roads, where motorists sniff, you should kindly crumble onto the bike path.

Some S-Pedelec owners do this too, illegally and with their insurance number unscrewed.

Why not allow S-Pedelecs on cycle paths and rely on common sense?

We need more Amby thinking and less subsidies for e-cars that weigh tons.
