A police officer in charge of protecting North Korean defectors has been detained without detention on charges of sexually abusing a North Korean defector middle school student whom he was previously in charge of.

On the 31st of last month, the Yeocheong Investigation Division of the Chungbuk National Police Agency said that it had handed over to the prosecution with an opinion of indictment, Inspector A from the Chungbuk Eumseong Police Station, who was accused of violating the Child Welfare Act.

In 2017, Inspector A was accused of sexually abusing a North Korean refugee middle school girl, B, at a villa in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, touching her body parts and telling her to take responsibility.

After that, when Miss B tried to run away, it turned out that she tried to keep her mouth shut, saying, "Everything that happened today is a secret" and "Don't tell anyone until you die."

In addition, Inspector A is known to have frequented the house where Miss B lived, forcing her to 'say you love her' and even ordered the destruction of evidence.

It is said that Inspector A got to know Miss B while in charge of protecting North Korean defectors at the Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul in the past.

Ms. B, who has been victimized for a long time, has recently been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and is receiving psychiatric treatment.

Chungbuk Eumseong Police Station announced that Inspector A has been placed on standby today (2nd).
