More than 100 million won in cash of an unknown source was found in a used kimchi refrigerator purchased online, drawing attention.

According to the Jeju Western Police Station, at around 3:45 pm on the 6th, a report was received at 112 that a 50,000 won bill of 110 million won (2,200 sheets) was attached to the outside floor of a used kimchi refrigerator.

It was confirmed that the reporter was a local citizen A, who recently purchased this kimchi refrigerator from a used goods company in Jongno-gu, Seoul through online.

On the day of the report, Mr. A received a used kimchi refrigerator at 10:30 a.m. and found a bundle of cash in the process of cleaning it.

This refrigerator was shipped as a used product, not in a box, but in a plastic cushioning material (so-called bubble wrap), and a bundle of cash was attached to the floor outside the refrigerator.

100 or 200 50,000 won bills are bundled together, wrapped in plastic, and taped.

The police are conducting investigations against companies, freighters, and buyers by checking closed circuit (CC) TV, but the source of the cash has not been confirmed yet.

Currently, this money is kept by the police.

If the found money is found to be the proceeds of a crime, it belongs to the state in accordance with the Act on the Regulation and Punishment of the Concealment of Crime Proceeds.

However, if the found money is recognized as lost property that is not related to the crime, if the owner does not appear within 6 months according to the Lost and Found Act, which applies mutatis mutandis Article 253 of the Civil Act, the first person who reported it will have all of it.

If Mr. A does not collect this money for 3 months from the time of the lapse of 6 months, it is returned to the national treasury.

If the owner is found, in accordance with Article 4 of the Lost and Found Act, Mr. A, the acquirer, can receive a compensation of 5-20% from the owner of the lost article.

Acquisition of lost property or compensation is classified as other income under the tax law and a total of 22% of tax is withheld.

A police official said, "It could be the proceeds of a crime or money with an unfair story, so we are doing our best to find the current owner."
