Except that on the map all the countries are not in the same boat, far from it.

There is a clear divide between rich countries and poor countries.

If the United States and the European Union have completely immunized half of their population and have started to vaccinate the youngest.

Some countries have not yet injected the slightest dose.

This is the case of Burundi or Eritrea.

An ineffective Covax program

Globally, the African continent is the furthest behind in terms of the vaccination campaign.

Out of 100 inhabitants only 4.8 doses were administered.

That is 10 times less than the world average and almost 100 times less than the United Arab Emirates, which is at the top of the ranking.

Despite the establishment of the Covax program - an international aid mechanism supported by the UN, with the objective of equal access to different vaccines - the divide persists.

High-income countries administered an average of 97 doses per 100 population.

This figure drops to 1.6 for low-income countries.

Fortunately, the latter were able to benefit from unused doses by the most advanced countries, hence the thrill of a semblance of the start of mass vaccination.
