A pony was found dead and mutilated in the village of Saint-Vallier, in Saône-et-Loire, we learned Thursday from a police source, adding to a growing list of similar attacks in France. The animal, found dead in its meadow, had its right ear cut off, the same source said. According to the Journal de Saône-et-Loire , his skull was also smashed and part of his muzzle cut off. The autopsy also revealed that the animal's diaphragm was depressed.

Attacks of this kind, mainly targeting horses and ponies, have multiplied in recent months in France with an apparently more marked recurrence since early August, without knowing the origin. On the night of Monday to Tuesday, the president of an animal shelter was attacked by two individuals who had just mutilated one of his horses and two ponies in the Yonne.
