That was to be expected. Two years after its last update, the iBooks Author digital book creation software is about to close. Apple announced in a support card that its software would be removed from the Mac App Store on July 1, drawing a definitive line on it.

The application had been abandoned for some time now. Its last update, dated September 2018, was only intended to improve the stability of the application. iBooks Author hadn't even been optimized for macOS Catalina.

Apple wants to be reassuring all the same, the books published on iBooks Author will always be available from Apple Books or the Pages application. The Californian firm refers the authors to Pages to continue their literary creation. The application had also hosted several tools for creating digital books two years ago. At the time, Apple claimed that Pages would never replace iBooks Author. Things seem to have changed.

Same fate for iTunes U

Other brand software to live its last hours; iTunes U. A service for teaching which will close its doors definitively at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Apple refers teachers, students and students who used iTunes U to other educational applications or related to new generation education, including In Class and For School.

The first is a kind of educational assistant. It helps guide students throughout a face-to-face course. As for the second, Pour l'Ecole makes it possible to share lessons, as well as homework and to follow the progress of the students.
