Yonsei University has been criticized for its poor standards and methods when it announced that it would support some of the cost of purchasing electronic devices for students who are taking online lectures with Corona 19.
On the 27th, Yonsei University announced 'Student Scholarship Information for Non-face-to-Line Online Courses'. It was the content that the school would pay some of the cost of purchasing electronic devices to students who have difficulty taking online courses. All undergraduate students, except those who have completed the course and leave of absence, can apply, and they will pay 1,200 on a first-come, first-served basis.

However, because it was sold on a first-come, first-served basis, there were not many students who really wanted to buy electronic devices at low prices. In fact, popular products such as iPads and MacBooks have been sold out of the website where you can purchase related items within a day after the announcement.

In response, students raised their voices by saying, "To be able to provide the funds for the purpose, they should have applied to the appropriate students through proof of the minimum income level, such as the income status of the Korea Scholarship Foundation." In addition, complaints such as "Once you buy it, it is difficult for low-income college students who have no money to buy it because they will return it later," and "Those who saw the announcement early had an opportunity to purchase electronic devices at a low price."

A question was also raised in the intramural community, "Isn't it the school's desire to replace tuition fees with IT device support?"

Yonsei University stated that it was a mistake to name the scholarship. "Although the name is a scholarship, it is intended to give IT device support for students' welfare rather than the concept of scholarship," he said. "In the beginning, we also considered free rental of electronic equipment, but decided that the support would be more advantageous."

He added, "As the scholarship team took over the business, the name of the scholarship entered and misunderstood." As the controversy grew, Yonsei University removed the expression 'Scholarship' from the announcement.
