In the wake of the mayor's death since 1983 in Signes, Var, Jean-Mathieu Michel, overthrown by a van while he had just seen several individuals illegally unloading rubble on a private road, the investigation continues.
Auditions are still in progress
Police custody of the driver (aged 23) was extended on Tuesday, while that of the passenger was lifted, according to information collected by Europe 1 from the prosecutor's office. According to the first hearings of the witnesses and mis en cause, it is the accidental track of a bad maneuver in reverse which is privileged even if auditions are still in progress.
"My father was great," the mayor's son told Europe 1 on Tuesday, describing a "great grandfather and great grandfather whom his little girls will not see anymore". While Jean-Mathieu Michel had been Mayor of Signes since 1983, Stéphane says that his father had "managed his commune for years, as if it were his home".
