Oscar Pistorius, 36, is in prison, convicted of the murder of his partner Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013. On Friday, he is to be heard by a panel in Pretoria who will decide whether or not to release him prematurely.

Steenkamp's mother, June, is to attend Friday's hearing to share how they have been affected by the murder. Pistorius also met with Steenkamp's parents last year, as it is a demand from South Africa's authorities for possible release.

May be paroled

If the panel decides to grant Pistorius' request, parole applies. This may entail restrictions, such as notification obligations and monitoring by authorities. One possibility is also that he may be paroled during the day, but remain in prison at night.
