Bruno Fernandez led the Portugal national team to reach the second round of the 2022 World Cup held in the State of Qatar, by scoring the two goals of victory over Uruguay in the match that was held at Lusail Stadium, at the end of the second round of Group H.

The match began in the presence of a large crowd, which Lusail Stadium was accustomed to during the World Cup matches, and with Portuguese attack and control, which was met by the Uruguayan players with tight defense.

But the most dangerous opportunity belonged to the “Celeste” team, when Rodrigo Pintacur kicked the ball from the middle of the field and got rid of the Portugal defense, to separate goalkeeper Diego Costa, who thwarted the adventure of the Tottenham player, and blocked the ball.

And the Portugal national team received disturbing news that its young player, Nuno Mendes, left in the 42nd minute due to injury, leaving his place for his colleague Rafael Guerrero.

Ten minutes after the break, Portugal opened the scoring after a cross from Bruno Fernandez was lifted by Cristiano Ronaldo, deceiving goalkeeper Sergio Rocht and into the net, to the hysterical delight of the five-times World Player of the Year.

But the website of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) confirmed moments later that the goal was scored in the name of Fernandez, so that Cristiano's score stopped at 9 World Cup goals so far.

After the Portuguese goal, the Uruguay national team pressed hard to equalise, so Maxi Gomez fired a shot from outside the penalty area, which was returned by the left post of goalkeeper Costa.

Substitute Luis Suarez almost gave his country a draw, after the ball reached him inside the penalty area, but he scored from outside.

Federico Valverde hit the Portugal defense with a brilliant pass, but substitute JD Arascaita awkwardly put the ball into Costa's hands.

Fernando Santos, coach of Portugal, directed star Cristiano Ronaldo in the 82nd minute, and pushed Goncalo Ramos instead.

The Iranian referee, Ali Reza Faghani, awarded a penalty kick to Portugal, after returning to the video referee technique (VAR), after a handball on Jose Jimenez, from which Bruno Fernandez scored the second goal in the 90 + 4 minute.
