The first edition of the Basketball Africa League will take place in Rwanda from May 16 to 30.

The matches will take place at the Kigali Arena, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced on Tuesday.

Twelve teams from twelve different countries will compete: GSP (Algeria), Petro Luanda (Angola), FAP (Cameroon), Zamalek (Egypt), GN (Madagascar), Police (Mali), Salé (Morocco), Ferroviario Maputo (Mozambique) ), Rivers Hoopers (Nigeria), Patriots (Rwanda), Customs (Senegal) and Monastir (Tunisia).

A showcase for players from the continent

The first edition of this competition created with the support of FIBA ​​and the NBA was scheduled for 2020 but has been postponed for a year due to the coronavirus epidemic.

According to Basketball Africa League President Amadou Gallo Fall, the event will provide “a showcase for elite players from across the continent to showcase their talent, inspire fans of all ages and use the basketball as an engine of economic growth in Africa ”.
