Belgian international striker Eden Hazard (29, 106 caps) and Brazilian international midfielder Casemiro (28, 45 caps) have tested positive for the new coronavirus, Real Madrid announced in a statement on Saturday.

"Real Madrid CF informs that players Casemiro and Hazard have tested positive after the Covid-19 exams taken yesterday Friday morning," said the Madrid club.

"All the other players and the technical support of the first team, as well as all the employees of the club who work directly with them, were tested negative during these same exams passed yesterday (Friday)", specified the club merengue .

"All except Casemiro and Hazard were again negative in the antibody tests (serological tests) carried out this morning," added Real.

A return for only two weeks

Real Madrid will therefore have to compose without Hazard or Casemiro against Valencia CF on Sunday at 21:00 (20:00 GMT) for the 9th day of the Spanish Championship.

After respecting a period of isolation of one week and awaiting a new negative test, these two players will not be able to join their national selections for the international window which opens from Monday.

This is bad news for Eden Hazard, who must leave his teammates again just two weeks after joining them for the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach on October 27 in the Champions League (2-2).

Hazard had missed the entire start of the season with a hamstring injury in his right leg, after a first Madrid season in 2019/20 plagued by repeated ankle injuries.

On Monday, the reigning Spanish champion had already announced that Brazilian central defender Eder Militao (22, 6 caps) had also tested positive for the new coronavirus, on the eve of facing Inter Milan on Tuesday (3- 2) in the Champions League.
