Federation captain Edina Marko had taken a large squad, 31 players, to a training camp before the European Championship qualifiers against Sweden on Thursday and against Latvia next week.

But when the team gathered on Sunday, ten of the players were missing.

"We have been forced to make changes to the national team squad," Edina Marko told the Hungarian federation's website.

"But we try to do our best to reach our goal with the players we have at our disposal."

"Not worried"

The Hungarian Football Association writes that it is mainly a corona fall in the club team MTK that is behind the fall.

The MTK players and players with whom they had direct contact were forced to resign.

As a result, a total of eight players were missing when the squad gathered.

Two more players are missing for other reasons.

- This is the reality we live in. But it is positive that Uefa has a very strict set of rules with tests and how we should behave here.

So I do not feel worried about playing against them or something like that, says Magdalena Eriksson before the match at Gamla Ullevi.

TT: Can you buy that there may not be completely fair conditions in all matches given that this can happen?

- Yes, it is the same as if you had many injuries or if you come from a tougher load.

That's the reality we live in, that's the way it is right now.

These are special times but it's just a matter of adapting.

Tested several times

A small light in the dark for Hungary is at the same time that six national team players from Ferencvaros have been able to join the squad, after testing negative for the coronavirus three times in the last week.

According to the association, the Hungarian squad will be coronated twice before the match against Sweden, once more before the Latvia match and a fourth time on the way home from the qualifying matches.

"The clubs are doing everything they can to protect the players' health, which of course is the most important aspect right now," said national team captain Edina Marko.

"Fortunately, these are isolated cases, not cases where the whole team is affected."
