On June 26, 2018 the German cyclist collided at a high speed with a young Dutch cyclist on the Cottbus track. As a result, his bone marrow was cut at the height of the seventh vertebra, becoming paralyzed from the chest region down. It took six months before the German cyclist could leave the Berlin hospital where she was admitted.
